The Importance of Operational Excellence With John Yagel

What was of interest at the Chemical show?

I found 3 of John´s reflections very compelling.

Firstly, how operational excellence has changed in the spam of his career, from being a competitive advantage for a business to becoming a regular thing. Actually, it has expanded out of the manufacturing processes and conquer the supply chain, business even to other industries. Operational excellence might have started as being predictive and responsive, which originates from reliability tools, now it is moving to predict quality and reliability of supply based on artificial intelligence, which are key components of the customer experience.

Secondly, the industry has to get better at telling the sustainability story. Since the beginning of operational excellence efforts, it has been focused on energy efficiency and footprint reductions due to cost reasons, but today the focus has grown towards corporate responsibility. The focus on sustainability is inherent to the industry and needs to include circularty and efficiency.

And lastly, the reminder that in recession times, such in the recent year(s) the industry goes from adding capacity to focus on cost reduction modus operandi.
